KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The Afghanistan Journalists Center has reported that live broadcasts have been banned in Uruzgan province by order of the Taliban’s Department for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice.
According to the center, the national television in Uruzgan has been downgraded to a radio station, and the activities of local radio stations and journalists have been severely restricted.
The center added that Uruzgan is the 24th province where live broadcasts have been officially prohibited.
The ban on live television coverage in Afghan media began in Asad 1403 (July–August 2024). Since then, media restrictions have intensified, with dozens of television channels being shut down or forced to change their content.
