KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – A 20-year-old man was shot dead by armed robbers in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, local sources reported.
The victim, identified as Mustafa, was attacked late on Saturday night in the fourth district of the city, according to sources. The robbers reportedly attempted to steal his mobile phone. When Mustafa resisted, he was shot. He was initially wounded and later died at a hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
Sayed Tayeb Hamad, spokesperson for the Taliban police in Nangarhar, confirmed the killing and said that an investigation into the incident is underway.
The killing highlights a continuing wave of violent crime in Afghanistan, including robberies and targeted attacks. In recent weeks, similar incidents have been reported in multiple provinces, raising concerns about public safety.
The Taliban, who claim to have restored security nationwide since returning to power, face growing criticism from citizens, human rights groups, and activists over their failure to protect civilians and their lack of transparency in investigating such crimes.
