Local sources in Afghanistan’s Parwan province say a former member of the Afghan National Army and another man have been shot dead by armed assailants in Jabal-us-Siraj district. The Taliban’s provincial police command has confirmed the incident and announced the arrest of three suspects.
According to the sources, the victims – identified as Abdul Shakoor and Abdul Wahid – were killed on Monday night (December 11) in the Gulbahar area. One source told KabulNow newspaper that Shakoor had served as a soldier in the former army, while Wahid was a relative of a former district security chief.
Both men were originally from the villages of Dobandi and Sangi Mohammad Khil in Gulbahar. Residents say the motive behind the killings remains unclear.
In a statement, the Taliban’s Parwan police command said the two victims, who lived alone and had no spouses or children, were killed in the village of Sangi Mohammad Kill. The statement added that three individuals – including the brother of one of the victims – have been detained on suspicion of involvement.
Preliminary findings, according to Taliban officials, suggest a dispute over property and inheritance may have triggered the incident, though investigations are ongoing.
Despite repeated Taliban claims of improved security, reports of criminal violence and unexplained killings continue to surface regularly from across Afghanistan, with daily accounts of bodies discovered and murders reported in several provinces.
