Sources: 12 Afghan Citizens Killed by Iranian Border Guards’ Gunfire

Local sources in Farah province say that a group of 35 Afghan citizens attempting to cross into Iran irregularly came under fire from Iranian border guards on Sunday (November 30) in the “78-Mile” border area. According to the sources, at least 12 people were killed, and their bodies have so far been recovered. The fate of the remaining individuals is still unknown.

The bodies have been transferred to the provincial hospital in Farah.

Taliban authorities in Farah have not yet commented on the incident.

This is not the first report of Afghan citizens being shot at by Iranian border guards. Following the suspension of Iran’s visa services, a growing number of Afghans have attempted to enter the country through irregular routes.

In recent months, the Taliban have reported detaining hundreds of people attempting to travel to Iran through smuggling networks.
