Qatar’s Ambassador Presents Credentials to Taliban Prime Minister

Qatar’s newly appointed ambassador to Afghanistan, Murdif Al-Qahtani, has presented his credentials to Taliban Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund.

According to a statement from the Taliban’s Office of the Prime Minister, the ceremony took place on Wednesday (December 3) at the Arg palace in Kabul, where Mullah Hassan officially accepted the ambassador’s credentials.

Al-Qahtani expressed his satisfaction at beginning his mission in Afghanistan, saying he would work to further strengthen relations between Qatar and the Taliban authorities.

The Taliban’s prime minister noted that Qatar had supported the group during difficult times and voiced hope that diplomatic ties between the two sides would deepen with the start of the ambassador’s tenure.

Doha appointed Murdif Al-Qahtani as its ambassador to Afghanistan in late October this year. Prior to this role, he served as the charge d affaires at the Qatari embassy in Kabul.

Al-Qahtani is the second foreign ambassador to present his credentials to the Taliban government. Earlier, Chaina’s ambassador to Afghanistan, Zhao Xing, formally submitted his credentials to the Taliban prime minister.
