Local sources in Uruzgan province say an unexploded mortar shell left from past fighting detonated in Charchino district, killing three brothers.
The blast occurred on Sunday (November 30) in Sherkhani village of Charchino district. According to the sources, the victims were aged 13, 15, and 18.
The cause of the explosion remains unlcear, and Taliban officials in Uruzgan have not yet commented.
Unexploded ordnance and landmines left behind by decades of conflicts continue to claim lives across Afghanistan, particularly among children. Large parts of the country remain contaminated with mines and explosive remnants of war.
According to UN figures, an estimated 3.3 million people in Afghanistan live within one kilometer of mine-contaminated areas.
