Young Man Found Dead in Northern Afghanistan Amid Surge in Mysterious Killings

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The body of a young man was found in Afghanistan’s northern Faryab province on Friday, local sources said, marking the latest in a series of mysterious killings across the country.

According to the sources, the victim, identified as Ali Mohammad, was found in Faryab’s newly established Khyber district at around 7:00 p.m.

The motive behind the killing remains unclear, and Taliban authorities have not commented.

This discovery comes amid a sharp rise in violent crimes and mysterious deaths across Afghanistan. Four days earlier, the Taliban’s deputy district governor of the newly established Chehelgazi district in Faryab was killed by unidentified armed men.

The UK-based rights organization Rawadari reported at least 251 cases of mysterious, targeted, or extrajudicial killings in the first six months of this year, representing about 30% rise compared with the same period last year. Many of these cases were allegedly linked to Taliban members or unidentified armed individuals operating with impunity.

The surge in such incidents has raised widespread concern over deteriorating security conditions, despite the Taliban’s repeated claims that they have restored stability since returning to power in 2021.
