Seven Killed in Militant Attack on ‘Peace Committee’ in Khayber Pakhtunkhwa

KABUL – Pakistan’s police have confirmed that seven members of a local “peace committee” were killed and another injured after after militants attacked their office in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

According to Geo News, the attack took place around 9 p.m. on Thusday in the Huweed area of Bannu district. Police said the assailants, described as “terrorists,” opened fire on the office, “triggering” an exchange that left seven committee members dead.

The victims and the injured person were taken to a nearby hospital in Bannu.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which borders Afghanistan, has seen a rise in militant violence since the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan. Pakistani officials say the Tahreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is using Afghan soil to launch attacks inside Pakistan.

Relations between Islamabad and the Taliban remain strained, with border crossings closed and bilateral trade halted for more than a month.
