Two Women Killed in Northern Afghanistan as Violent Crimes Surge

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Two women have been killed in separate incidents in northern Faryab province over the past two days, amid a recent rise in violent crimes and domestic abuse across Afghanistan.

The first incident occurred on Friday in Faryab’s Dawlatabad district, where a man allegedly strangled his wife to death, local sources reported.

According to the sources, the man was involved in a relationship with his sister-in-law and killed his wife to continue the affair. After the killing, the man attempted to flee the province with his sister-in-law but was arrested by Taliban authorities in Sheberghan, the provincial capital.

In a separate case on Thursday, a 45-year-old woman was shot dead in her home in Shirin Tagab district by unidentified armed men. According to local sources, the attackers entered her home and shot her dead. The motive behind the killing remains unclear.

Local Taliban authorities have not yet commented on either incident.

These two cases are part of a growing pattern of violent crimes, domestic abuse, and mysterious killings across Afghanistan. Human rights groups and residents say such incidents have increased since the Taliban returned to power in 2021, with women remaining particularly vulnerable. Reports indicate that perpetrators often act with impunity due to weak law enforcement and inconsistent investigations.
