Taxi Driver Found Dead in Northern Afghanistan Amid Rise in Mysterious Killings

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The body of a missing taxi driver was found Friday in Sheberghan, the capital of Afghanistan’s northern Jowzjan province, local sources told KabulNow.

According to sources, the victim, identified as Mohammad Royen, went missing from Sheberghan city on Sunday. His body was found in the city on Friday.

The motive behind the killing remains unknown. Taliban officials in Jowzjan have not yet commented.

The discovery comes amid a surge in criminal violence and a rise in mysterious killings across Afghanistan, with similar cases reported in several provinces in recent weeks.

Just last week, the bodies of at least two young men, including a taxi driver, were reportedly found in the southern provinces of Helmand and Kandahar. The perpetrators of these killings have yet to be identified.

As such incidents increase, many Afghans express growing concern over public safety and worsening security, despite Taliban claims of having restored order since returning to power.

Human rights groups and civil society activists say the Taliban are failing to protect civilians and are not carrying out credible investigations into these killings.
