Taliban Arrest Two in Kapisa Amid Mounting Fears of Arbitrary Detentions

KABUL – Taliban intelligence forces have arrested two residents of Kohband district in Afghanistan’s Kapisa province, local sources told KabulNow.

The individuals, identified as Gul Habib and Zaboor, were reportedly taken from the village of Bulghin on Sunday evening, July 27.

According to sources, one of the detainees is a student, while the other is an ordinary civilian with no known political or militant ties.

Families of the two men say they have visited several Taliban security offices in the province seeking information, but authorities have so far not disclosed the men’s whereabouts or the reason for their arrest.

No charges have been announced, and the Taliban’s provincial authorities have not made any public comment on the case.

The arrests come amid increasing reports of arbitrary detentions by the Taliban across various provinces, particularly targeting former government employees, civil society members, and civilians in regions with a history of resistance or ethnic tensions.

Human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, have repeatedly raised alarms over the lack of due process and the growing number of enforced disappearances under Taliban rule since their return to power in August 2021.
