Five Family Members, Including Children, Killed in Ghazni Amid Rising Mysterious Killings

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Five members of a single family, including four children, were brutally killed in Ghazni province, Taliban authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

Abu Khalid Sarhadi, spokesperson for the Taliban’s police command in Ghazni, said the attack occurred Sunday night in the village of Tolakhil in Qarabagh district. According to Sarhadi, unidentified armed men broke into the family’s home during the night, killing five people and injuring another child.

He added that several suspects have been detained in connection with the case, but provided no details on their identities or motives.

The office of the Taliban-appointed governor in Ghazni also confirmed the killings, saying provincial governor Abdul Samad Javid traveled to Qarabagh on Tuesday to oversee the investigation.

Since the Taliban seized power in August 2021, mysterious killings have sharply increased across Afghanistan. Many are attributed to unidentified gunmen, while Taliban authorities rarely disclose results of investigations or confirm accountability.

Although the Taliban have repeatedly claimed they restored security nationwide, such attacks continue to raise concerns over public safety and law enforcement.

Human rights organizations have criticized the group for failing to protect civilians and for conducting opaque investigations into violent crimes.
