Man Shot Dead in Northern Afghanistan, Fourth Mysterious Killing in One Day

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – A man was shot dead inside his home by masked gunmen in northern Afghanistan, marking the fourth mysterious killing reported in a single day.

Local sources told KabulNow that the victim, identified as Baz Mohammad, was killed on Friday night, May 7, in Sheberghan, the capital of Jowzjan province.

More than 15 armed men reportedly stormed his house and shot him in front of his family, and fled the scene. No individual or group has claimed responsibility.

The motive behind the killing remains unclear. Sources said Mohammad had no known enemies and had no links to any political or armed groups.

Taliban authorities in the province have not commented on the incident.

This was the fourth mysterious killing reported on Friday in Afghanistan, following separate shootings that claimed the lives of three other men in Nangarhar, Nimroz, and Faryab provinces, including a former soldier.

The incidents add to growing fears over a surge in mysterious killings in Afghanistan. In February alone, at least 25 people — including women and girls — were killed under similar circumstances, according to data compiled by KabulNow.

Although the Taliban claim to have restored security since returning to power, such incidents continue to raise concerns about public safety. Human rights groups and activists have criticized the group for not protecting civilians and failing to carry out transparent investigations into the killings.
