KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Three men have been killed by unknown individuals over the past two days in Faryab province, northern Afghanistan, as mysterious killings in the region continue to rise, local sources say.
Two of the incidents took place in Shirin Tagab district. The latest occurred on Wednesday morning, when a man identified as Firuz was shot dead by unidentified attackers. Sources said he owned a fuel station.
On Monday night, another man, Ramazan, was killed near his home. Sources said he was a mobile shop owner in the area.
The third killing was reported in Almar district on Tuesday, where a young man named Saragul was fatally stabbed by unknown individuals. His brother was also injured in the attack, according to sources.
There has been no claim of responsibility for the killings, and local Taliban authorities have not commented on the incidents.
These killings are part of a broader surge in criminal activities and mysterious deaths across Afghanistan. The country’s citizens are increasingly concerned about their safety and security, adding to the difficulties they face following the Taliban’s return to power.
In a report last year, Rawadari, a London-based human rights organization, documented at least 239 cases of mysterious, extrajudicial, and targeted killings, including those of women and children, across Afghanistan over a six-month period.
The actual number may be much higher, the rights group said, as it was unable to document all cases due to the climate of fear created by the Taliban, who pressure victims’ families to keep such incidents hidden. The victims identified include former government officials, their families, human rights advocates, tribal elders, and those opposed to the Taliban regime.
