Unknown Armed Men Kill 10 Family Members in Eastern Afghanistan, Taliban Reports

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Unidentified armed men raided a home in eastern Khost province, killing 10 family members, including women and children, local Taliban authorities have confirmed.

The incident took place in Ali Sher district on Tuesday at around 9:00 p.m. local time, as confirmed by Mustaghfir Garbiz, the spokesperson for the Taliban governor in Khost, in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

The motive behind the killings and the identities of the victims remain unclear. However, Taliban authorities have said that they have arrested two suspects in connection with the case.

This is one of several violent incidents reported across Afghanistan in recent days, fueling concerns over the increasing number of mysterious killings.

Earlier on Tuesday, a former soldier, Faizullah Miraj, was killed by unidentified gunmen in Lashkar Gah, the capital of southern Helmand province. Miraj, a former police officer under the previous government, had reportedly been detained and tortured three times in the past by the Taliban, according to local sources.

In another incident, two brothers were killed by unknown gunmen in eastern Nangarhar province’s Surkh Road district on Monday. Taliban authorities confirmed the attack, attributing it to personal enmity.

These incidents add to the surge in mysterious killings and criminal activities across Afghanistan. Citizens are becoming increasingly concerned about their safety and security, which only adds to the growing challenges they have faced since the Taliban’s takeover.

A recent report by Rawadari, a London-based human rights group, documented 239 cases of mysterious and targeted killings, including women and children, over a six-month period. The victims ranged from former government officials and tribal elders to human rights activists and Taliban opponents.
