KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF), an armed anti-Taliban group, has claimed responsibility for an attack on a convoy of Taliban intelligence vehicles in Baghlan, reportedly killing four Taliban members and injuring two others.
The attack occurred on Saturday evening, January 18, at the central square of Pul-e-Khumri, the capital of Baghlan province.
The group said that the fate of Mullah Mansoor, a Taliban commander targeted during the assault, remains unclear.
The AFF did not disclose whether its own forces suffered any casualties.
Local Taliban officials in Baghlan have yet to comment on the incident.
The Afghanistan Freedom Front, led by General Yasin Zia and composed primarily of former Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) personnel, was established following the Taliban’s return to power in 2021.
Since its formation, the group has carried out numerous operations against the Taliban, particularly in Panjshir, Kabul, and nearby provinces. The AFF claims to have killed hundreds of Taliban fighters over the past three years.
