KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Two young men were found dead in Helmand province, southern Afghanistan, on Thursday, November 28, local sources reported.
The sources told KabulNow today that the young men, identified as Abdullah and Tawab, had gone missing a week ago, and their bodies were found in Nawa district on Thursday.
The motive behind the incident remains unclear and the perpetrators are unknown. However, according to the sources, the Taliban has detained two individuals in connection with the incident.
The local Taliban authorities have not yet commented on the incident.
This incident adds to a surge in mysterious killings and criminal activities across Afghanistan in recent years. The country’s citizens are increasingly concerned about their safety and security, which adds to the mounting challenges they face since the Taliban’s takeover.
On Wednesday, the body of a man was found in southwestern Farah province. The cause of his death or murder has yet to be determined.
On the same day, a 20-year-old man named Sahil was found hanged at a poultry farm in the Jaghori district of Ghazni province. The circumstances of the incident remain unclear, with uncertainty over whether it was a suicide or a mysterious killing.
In its August report, Rawadari, a London-based human rights organization, documented at least 239 cases of mysterious, extrajudicial, and targeted killings, including those of women and children, across Afghanistan over six months.
The victims include former government officials, their family members, human rights advocates, tribal elders, and opponents of the Taliban regime.
The actual number, according to the rights group, may be much higher as it was unable to document all cases due to some families’ reluctance to disclose them and Taliban pressure on victims’ families to keep them private.
