KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The Taliban agents have detained social activist Hameed Qarloq in Takhar province, northern Afghanistan, according to local sources. He was reportedly collecting donations for the reconstruction of a school in the area.
Speaking with KabulNow today, the sources said the activist was detained by Taliban agents in Dashti Qala district at around 3:00 PM local time on Wednesday, November 13.
According to the sources, the activist is currently being held in the Taliban Counter-Terrorism Department at the provincial police headquarters.
The reason for the activist’s detention remains unclear, and local Taliban authorities have yet to comment on the matter.
However, sources said that the activist was recently collecting donations for the reconstruction of a school that had previously burned for unknown reasons, and his detention could be related to this activity.
Since regaining power in Afghanistan, the Taliban have arrested, detained, and tortured dozens of activists, journalists, and poets across the country.
In most cases, the regime accuses them of spying for foreign countries, collaborating with armed resistance groups, opposing its policies on education, the rights of women and girls, and various other reasons.
