Man Shot Dead in Northern Afghanistan Amid Surge in Mysterious Killings

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Local sources have reported the killing of a man by unidentified armed men in the Qaisar district of Faryab province.

A local source told KabulNow that the victim, identified as Toorjan, was shot dead in the Qazal Kotal area while traveling from Qaisar to Almar on a motorcycle on the morning of Saturday, November 16. He was a resident of the village of Qara Qol in Qaisar.

The motive for his killing and the identity of the perpetrators remains unclear.

Local Taliban authorities in Faryab have not yet commented on the incident.

Around three weeks ago, armed individuals also killed a man and wounded his son in Almar, Faryab.

These incidents have contributed to a growing wave of mysterious killings and criminal activities across Afghanistan in recent years. Citizens are increasingly concerned about their safety and security, adding to the challenges they have faced since the Taliban’s takeover.

In its August report, Rawadari, a London-based human rights organization, documented at least 239 cases of mysterious, extrajudicial, and targeted killings, including those of women and children, across Afghanistan over six months.

The victims include former government officials, their family members, human rights advocates, tribal elders, and opponents of the Taliban regime.

The rights group warned that the actual number of victims may be much higher, as it was unable to document all cases due to the atmosphere of fear created by the Taliban and pressure on victims’ families to keep such information concealed.
