Switzerland Expels Two Afghan Citizens Over Security Concerns

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The Swiss government has deported two Afghan nationals convicted in its courts, citing security issues. The Swiss Federal authorities confirmed the expulsions on October 13.

According to a report from Swissinfo, the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration classified these individuals as “serious offenders” who posed a threat to national security. The report also notes that the Swiss authorities provided each Afghan national with CHF 500 ($583) in cash to assist them before their departure.

This marks the first instance of migrant expulsions from Switzerland to Afghanistan since 2019. Swiss officials indicated plans to accelerate the deportation process for additional migrants, with reports of 13 other Afghan nationals with criminal convictions still residing in Switzerland.

Earlier this month, Germany deported 28 Afghan criminals on a charter flight, also the first such action since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan.

The repatriation of migrants to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan has drawn significant criticism, raising concerns about the dangers these individuals may face upon their return. Human rights advocates continue to call for caution, highlighting the severe human rights, humanitarian, and economic crises currently affecting the country.
