KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Unidentified armed men have shot and killed a community elder in Ghor province, central Afghanistan, amid a recent surge in mysterious killings in the country.
Speaking with KabulNow today, a local source identified the man as Atta Gul, a resident of Firuz Koh, the capital city, who was killed on Thursday, September 12.
The source explained that Atta Gul was visiting his farm in a nearby village when he was shot and killed by armed men on motorcycles.
The motive behind the incident remains unclear; however, according to the source, the man had no connections to armed resistance groups and no personal enmity with anyone or any group.
The local Taliban authorities have yet to comment on the incident.
This marks the latest incident of mysterious killings in Afghanistan. Since the Taliban takeover, the country has seen a surge in such incidents, adding to the mounting challenges faced by its citizens.
In the past month alone, KabulNow reported at least six mysterious killings across Afghanistan, including those of women and former ANDSF members.
The actual number is likely much higher, as many cases remain unreported due to Taliban media restrictions and the lack of access to media and the internet for the victims’ families in remote areas.
Most mysterious killing incidents remain uninvestigated, with perpetrators unidentified, as the ruling regime has been unable to investigate the cases or hold those responsible accountable.
