Explosion in Western Kabul Kills At Least One, Injures 11

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – An explosion targeting a civilian minivan in the western part of Kabul on Sunday afternoon killed at least one person and wounded 11, including women, according to the Taliban authorities.

Khalid Zadran, the Taliban spokesperson for Kabul police command, said that the blast was triggered by an improvised explosive device (IED) that went off in the vehicle.

At least eight of the victims were shifted to Kabul’s Emergency Hospital, one of whom remains in critical condition, the hospital said in a post on X.

No group immediately claimed responsibility. However, the area, mainly populated by Shia Hazaras, has been targeted in the past by the Islamic State group affiliate in the country, known as ISKP.

The terrorist group has carried out major, horrific attacks on schools, hospitals, public transportation, mosques, gyms, and other social premises, targeting Hazaras.

The group has also attacked other Shia areas of Afghanistan in recent years.
