The Taliban Ministry of Public Works has announced that the Salang Pass will be closed to all traffic from September 10 until the completion of construction work inside the tunnel.
In a newsletter on Wednesday, the ministry stated that the closure is necessary to implement the reconstruction project on the 80-kilometer highway, which has already begun.
The ministry has asked citizens to complete their travel needs before September 10th.
The Salang Pass is a major highway that connects northern and southern Afghanistan. It is the main route for goods and people traveling between the two regions. The pass was built several decades ago and is in need of repair.
