UNESCO: The Taliban is ripping away women’s dreams

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has criticized the ongoing restrictions on the education of girls and women in Afghanistan, emphasizing that their fundamental right to education has been violated.

UNESCO wrote in a tweet on Wednesday that, “The dreams and hopes of girls and women in Afghanistan have been ripped away, and their fundamental right to education has been violated. This is unacceptable.”

Initially, the Taliban prohibited girls above the sixth grade from attending school, and later, they extended the ban to include girls at the university level. The group has further imposed a ban on women working in both government and non-governmental organizations.

In the latest case, the group’s supreme leader has issued a ban on all women’s beauty salons throughout Afghanistan, instructing them to shut down their activities by July 24.
