Taliban and Iranian officials meet to resolve Herat border dispute

The Taliban and Iranian border guards clashed on Thursday over a disagreement over the demarcation line in the western province of Herat.

The group’s ministry of defence said in a statement that its forces took issue after the Iranian side extended a road beyond the demarcation line.

A delegation from the group’s 207th Al-Farooq Corps in Herat consequently met Iranian officials to resolve the issue, the Taliban said.

Iran has not commented.

The Taliban’s border guards have had disputes with neighbouring countries on previous occasions, highlighting a recurring issue. Iranian officials, in particular, have accused the group of lacking accurate knowledge regarding the border.
