Takhar University demands staff and students pay for road construction

The head of Takhar University, Mohammad Bashir Mujahid, has demanded lecturers, staff, and students to contribute financially towards the construction of a 7km ring road surrounding the university campus.

According to a source close to the matter, Bashir has asked teachers and employees to allocate a portion of their monthly salaries, ranging from 1,000 to 1,500 Afghani ($18).

In addition, he has proposed reducing the students’ meal budget for one month to fund the road project. The road construction, which remained unfinished under the previous government, has also been excluded from the Taliban’s annual budget.

However, it is worth noting that the decision made by Bashir has not garnered the support of the university’s teachers, employees, or students. They believe that it is unfair to burden them with the responsibility of financing the road construction project. The source informed KabulNow that thus far, an amount of 700,000 Afghani (approximately $8,000) has been collected from the deducted salaries and the students’ meal budget.
