Taliban beat a local journalist in Daikundi province

Saifullah Rezayee, a local journalist in the central Daikundi province, has claimed that the Taliban forces have beaten, humiliated, and detained him shortly for unspecified reasons in Nili, capital of the province, late on Friday.

The journalist, who works with the local and private Nassim Radio station, detailed that the Taliban forces detained him for almost one hour after beating and slapping him on the face while he was walking with cameraman of the Taliban-run National Radio Television in Nili’s main square.

After almost one hour of detention, the detained journalist added, the Taliban freed him when Director of the province’s information and culture department mediated his release.

He called on the local Taliban authorities to seriously probe the case, arrest and punish the perpetrators. “The Taliban forces do not know how to treat with the people. They humiliate, insult, and beat Daikundi’s residents almost on a daily basis,” the local journalist said.

Afghanistan has seen a dramatic rise in violence against journalists, mostly by the Taliban forces, over the past few months.

On March 18, Nai- Supporting Open Media in Afghanistan said that the violence against journalists is surging with each passing day in the country.
