To control further outbreak of Covid-19, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has stopped the issuance of passports in 16 provinces excluding some exceptional cases, the MoI’s General Directorate of Passport said in a statement issued on Tuesday, June 02.
According to the statement, the issuance of passport has been stopped in provinces of Kabul, Ghazni, Helmand, Kandahar, Logar, Nangarhar, Paktia, Parwan, Maidan Wardak, Panjsher, Balkh, Laghman, Badakhshan, Kapisa, Kunduz, and Nimruz.
The exceptional cases in which passports will be issued include emergency patients with confirmation from hospitals, government employees who are introduced by the relevant authorities for official trips, businessmen who have valid business licenses of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
The visa extension services for foreign nationals will also be open in Kabul and other provinces, the statement added.
Those who have already submitted their passport application and the issuance process is underway can receive their passports on the set date, according to the newly restrictive rules.
This comes as universities, schools, and all educational centers have been previously closed in a bid to prevent spread of the coronavirus in what has been officially declared as the third wave of Covid-19.
The health ministry has recorded 1,118 new cases of coronavirus over past 24 hours in all over the country increasing the total number Covid-19 cases to 75,144.
Updates released today, Wednesday, June 02, by the Ministry of Public Health show that 27 Covid-19 patients died over past 24 hours increasing the death toll of the Covid-19 to 3,034.
A total of 222 Covid-19 patients have recently been recovered from the pandemic.
The official figures are highly unreliable – suggesting far more fatalities and infection rate – since the country has a poor health system which has a low capacity for conducting Covid-19 testing.
