Ahmad Shah Ahmadi, who was working at the provincial directorate of the judiciary in Ghazni, was wounded after unknown gunmen opened fire at his vehicle, a local official said today, Wednesday, May 05.
His brother Zabihullah was killed in the attack by the unknown gunmen who were riding a car.
Wahidullah Jumazada, the spokesperson for Ghazni governor, said the incident took place on Tuesday afternoon in Street 44 of Plan 03 of Ghazni city while Mr. Ahmadi and his brother were in their car heading towards their home.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. But the Afghan intelligence officials blame the Taliban for the targeted killing of government workers, notably the Afghan judiciary staff.
On January 12, the Taliban militants shot dead Nasir Ahmad Usmani, an employee of the New Kabul Bank in southern Ghazni city. Usmani’s death came weeks after masked gunmen shot dead Rahmatullah Nekzad, a prominent local journalist, who was the head of Ghazni Journalists’ Union and was working for international media, The Associated Press, and Al Jazeera satellite TV channel.
The Taliban denied responsibility for the assassination of Nekzad but Afghan intelligence officials later accused the group for his murder.
Located in the southeast of the country, Ghazni is an insecure province where the insurgent group controls swathes of territory.
