19 Taliban militants killed in Faryab

As many as 19 Taliban militants, including two shadow district governors and three Pakistani nationals, were killed and 15 others, including a Taliban commander, wounded in an airstrike conducted by the Afghan Air Force on Monday evening, May 17, in the northern province of Faryab, said a statement issued by 209 Shaheen Military Corps on Tuesday, May 18.

The airstrike targeted a Taliban base in Pashtun Kut district.

Zainullah known as Khalid, the shadow district governor of Almar, Mullah Asadullah Turkman, a Taliban military commander in Andkhoy, and Noor al-Haq, Taliban’s shadow governor for Bala Murghab district were among those killed.

Abdul Karim Yourish, the spokesperson for Faryab Police, said that Noor al-Haq was not shadow governor; he was a prominent commander of the Taliban.

The operation was carried out while the group was planning to launch attacks in different parts of province.

18 vehicles including motorbikes and cars of the militant group were destroyed in this operation, the statement added.

The Taliban have not made any comment in this regard so far.

Faryab is one of the most insecure provinces where the Taliban militants control swathes of territories including Pashtun Kut district.
