US Especial Envoy: There is no support for armed conflict in Afghanistan

The United States Special Envoy for Afghanistan Thomas West said on Friday that he met with Afghan activists together with heads-of-mission of key allies and partners in Doha, and all participants voiced support for dialogue as a solution to the Afghanistan crisis.

In the meeting, he said, a dynamic mix of women and men having diverse backgrounds from Afghanistan participated, with some of them traveling from Afghanistan to join.

“I heard both condemnation and support for Taliban conduct and different recommendations for how the international community should address challenges. But every Afghan participant voiced support for dialogue and opposition to armed conflict as a solution to the country’s challenges.” US special envoy tweeted.

The US special envoy further hoped that the participants of the meeting will carry their message to the Taliban and other Afghan leaders and the country’s key stakeholders.

Thomas West, who started his one-week trip to the Middle East nations of Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Turkey on April 11 aiming to talk with the officials of some host countries, Afghan civil society activists, and Afghanistan political leaders. According to the US Department of State, in his trip, West will be seeking solutions to Afghanistan’s compounding challenges which are worsened by the Taliban’s recent ban on women working for the UN office.
