According to security officials in Indian-controlled Kashmir, reported by NBC News, some of the weapons left behind by the US in Afghanistan, are being used by Islamist militant groups in Kashmir.
Indian security forces have seized M4 and M16 assault rifles from Pakistan based militant groups Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) fighters.
Lt. Col. Emron Musavi, an Indian army spokesperson in Srinagar, the capital of Kashmir, told NBC News that “It can be safely assumed that they [militants] have access to the weapons left behind.”
A training video released by the Pakistani Taliban (TTP) earlier in January also appear to show the group’s fighters carrying M16 rifles. And it has been reported that the Russian president Vladimir Putin wants obtain American military equipments from the Taliban in Afghanistan.
