Taliban arrest and torture locals

Taliban Arrest and Torture Locals after Infighting in Panjshir

The Taliban have arrested and tortured locals in the Dara district of Panjshir province after infighting among the group’s fighters left one wounded.

The infighting erupted over an argument about the number of ‘leave days’ among the Taliban forces stationed in an outpost of the group in the district, a source confirmed to Kabul Now on Friday, October 21, 2022.

After the infighting ended, additional Taliban forces were deployed to the area. These Taliban forces, as the source detailed, arrested around 50 locals and then tortured them inside their central base in the district.

Some of the locals have been tortured to an extent that they are still hospitalized, according to sources who spoke to Kabul Now.

A source confirmed that a school teacher named Ustad Khabir is also among those arrested and tortured. The teacher is still in hospital along with some other tortured locals.

A week earlier, the Taliban arrested around 200 locals in Abshar and Rokha districts of Panjshir on charges of attempting to ambush the group’s military convoy and forces.
