As many as 16 security forces, including police chiefs of two districts, were killed, two others wounded, and 15 others are missing as a result of the latest attacks carried out by the Taliban in Baghlan and Badghis provinces, according to local authorities.
Lutf ul Haq Haqbin, acting police chief in Burka district, and Gulbuddin Ghafoori, acting police chief in Julga district, were killed along with five police soldiers after their outposts came under the Taliban attacks, said Ferouzuddin Aimaq, a member of Baghlan Provincial Council.
The incidents took place on Friday evening, June 04, he added.
The Taliban, however, claimed that 10 security and defense forces were killed and eight others were wounded in their attack.
At least seven army soldiers were killed and two others were wounded as a result of the Taliban attacks in Jawand district of Badghis. Talking to Kabul Now, Abdul Aziz Beig, a member of Badghis Provincial Council, said that the incident took place last night, Friday, June 04.
Hessamuddin Shams, the province governor, confirmed that five army soldiers were killed and two others were wounded in the attack. He added that the Taliban have also killed a member of Territorial Army – a pro-government militia – in Qadis district of the province.
As per account of the governor, 10 Taliban militants have been killed and 12 others wounded in counter-attacks of Afghan security forces in Jawand district.
This comes a day after the Taliban killed Sayed Shafaq, an acting police chief, along with six security and defense forces and wounded five others in Farsi and Gulran districts of Herat province.
A number of security and defense forces were also taken as captives by the Taliban, the sources added.
Sayed Abdul Wahid Qatali, Herat governor, said the incident took place on Thursday evening, June 03.
13 Taliban militants were killed and five others were wounded during the clashes in Farsi district, he added.
The Taliban militants have recently increased their attacks against Afghan defense and security forces in all over the country. The militant have mostly focused their attacks on districts attempting to take over control of the local administration.
In latest territorial progresses, the militants have reportedly taken control of five districts in Urozgan, Ghazni, Zabul, and Nooristan provinces.
