Taliban torture and kill young man from Panjshir in Herat province

Local sources in western Herat province have reported that the Taliban arrested a young man from Panjshir province and killed him under torture.

The young man, identified as Fayaz ul Haq, was arrested by the Taliban in Herat about a month ago while traveling to Iran. He was originally from Darah district of Panjshir province.

According to sources, Fayaz ul Haq had gone to Iran after the collapse of the previous government and recently returned to the country to extend his passport.

He was reportedly interrogated by the Taliban at the border and a military photo was found on his mobile phone. The Taliban apparently thought that he was a military man in the previous government and arrested him.

After a month, Fayaz ul Haq’s body was released from prison and handed over to his family. Sources say that he had no connection with Taliban opponents and was not involved in any military activities.

Local Taliban officials have not yet commented on the incident.

Cases of torture leading to death in Taliban prisons and detention centers have been reported before. Recently, a human rights organization named Rawadari has said in a report that at least 10 individuals have died as a result of severe torture in Taliban prisons in the past six months.

The report found that the majority of detainees in Taliban prisons have been subjected to torture and ill-treatment, including beatings, suffocation, waterboarding, genital torture, sleep deprivation, mock executions, and electric shocks.
