Taliban accused of killing former military commander in Takhar province

Local sources in northeastern Takhar province reported that Taliban fighters shot and killed a former local commander named Faizullah Takhnabadi on Wednesday night.

The incident took place in the village of Takhn Abad in Chah Ab district.

According to local sources, Takhnabadi was a member of the Jamiat-e-Islami Afghanistan, a political party led by Atta Mohammad Noor, the former governor of Balkh province.

Taliban officials in Takhar province have not yet commented on the incident.

Following the Taliban’s return to power, tens of thousands of former soldiers were left unemployed and living under the harsh rule of the Taliban, the same group they had fought against for two decades.

Despite the Taliban’s general amnesty, in the past two years, they have frequently arrested, tortured, and even killed former security forces.
