Local sources said that more than 200 people fell ill due to food poisoning at a charity event in the southeastern Khost province.
The incident occurred in Satkai village of Zazai Maidan district on Sunday evening when people took ill after eating their meals.
Sources indicated that many were taken to the provincial hospital, and some remain in critical condition, among them women and children.
Taliban officials in the province confirmed the mass food poisoning, saying an investigation is underway.
Mustaghfir Gurez, Taliban’s security spokesperson in Khost, stated that no one has died of the food poisoning.
Health officials in the province have not commented on the incident.
