Man shot dead in Faryab province amid rise in murder rate

A 50-year-old man was reportedly shot and killed by his son in the Almar district of northern Faryab province, local sources said.

The man, identified as Ghulam Sakhi, was shot dead in the Qaratana village on Sunday.

The shooter attempted to escape, but he was detained by Taliban police in Maimana city.

Sources have claimed that the Sakhi was killed due to “family violence”.

However, the motive behind the killing remains unclear.

Taliban officials have not commented.

The surge in the murder rate has raised concerns about the security situation in Afghanistan. The Taliban has been struggling to maintain law and order since it took control of the country in August 2021.

Last week, at least four people were murdered in three separate incidents in Kunduz, Farah, and Baghlan provinces.
