Teenage boy takes his own life in Badakhshan province

A 15-year-old boy committed suicide by hanging himself in Faizabad, the capital of Badakhshan province.

A source told KabulNow that the boy, identified as Shahabuddin, ended his life by hanging on Monday around 10am in the city’s District 5 area.

The source added that Shahabuddin was suffering from mental health conditions.

Taliban security spokesperson in the province, Ehsanullah Kamgar, confirmed the incident and quoted the boy’s family members as saying that he had mental health problems.

In recent months, there has been an alarming increase in suicide cases in Afghanistan, particularly among girls and women. This is likely due to a number of factors, including poverty, restrictions on freedom and rights, and mental health problems such as depression and anxiety.
