US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Meets Indian Officials, Abdullah

In his visit to India, the US Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West met India’s Deputy National Security Adviser Vikram Misri and other Indian officials. He has also met Abdullah Abdullah, former Chair of Afghanistan’s High Council for National Reconciliation.

The US special envoy said that he discussed “shared interests in Afghanistan” in his meeting with India’s deputy national security adviser and spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi.

“As fellow friend of Afghan people, US deeply appreciates India’s generous humanitarian support and commitment to Afghan’s fundamental rights,” West stated in a tweet posted earlier today, December 06.

Moreover, West added that he met Abdullah about the “urgent need” for national political dialogue among Afghans.

Describing the intra-Afghan dialogue as “imperative”, the US special envoy noted that there is consensus among the international community on the need for such dialogue.

He also paid a two-day visit to Japan and discussed “shared interests” with Japanese officials in Tokyo.

The US envoy for Afghanistan is set to visit the United Arabic Emirate as well. He started his travel to the three countries on December 01 and is set to conclude it on December 08.
