Taliban Publicly Flog Eleven Men and One Woman in Ghor

The Taliban officials have publicly flogged twelve people, including one woman, before tens of spectators on various charges in the western Ghor province.

The Taliban governor’s office said that the Taliban’s criminal court in this province issued the lashing sentences and implemented it on Thursday, December 15, in Ferozkoh, the capital city of Ghor.

The office in a news release said that two persons received between 25 to 36 lashes for drinking alcoholic drinks, and three persons, including one woman, received 29 to 39 lashes for having extramarital affairs and moral crimes. Seven others received 39 lashes on the charge of theft.

The Taliban have recently publicly flogged women and men on the charges of various crimes, including premarital relations, theft and so on.

This comes right one day after the Taliban publicly flogged 27 people, including two women, in the cities of Qalat and Lashkargah, in southern Zabul and Helmand.

In a very recent case, the Taliban group also publicly executed a man accused of murder in Farah province which drew worldwide reactions. The ruling group, however, describes lashing as a Sharia-based punishment while accusing those reacting against it as disrespectful to Islam.
