Acting Taliban Defense Minister

Acting Taliban Defense Minister Meets US Special Envoy in UAE

The Taliban acting defense minister, Mawlawi Yaqub Mujahid, has met the US Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), according to the group’s Ministry of Defense.

“Acting Defense Minister asked Mr. Thomas West that the world should respect the territorial integrity of Afghanistan,” the Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday, December 06.

The two sides have discussed Afghanistan issues and Mujahid has assured the US special representative that all Afghanistan’s “supposed points and borders are protected,” according to the statement.

Moreover, the statement cited Mujahid as saying that there was no threat from Afghanistan’s territory to other countries in the world and region. “There will not be any threats against any country from Afghanistan soil.”

He attempts to give such assurances at a time when many countries have already expressed concerns over growing terrorist outfits under the Taliban umbrella in Afghanistan.

In the part of border security, the Taliban fighters have also clashed several times with border forces of the neighboring countries, particularly with Pakistan and Iranian forces, since the takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021.
