Few days after the Ministry of Interior (MoI) accused Taliban of killing around 100 civilians in Spin Boldak district of Kandahar province, the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has ordered probing it as “genocide” and “war crime” stipulated in the country’s Penal Code.
“This horrible incident is a clear manifestation of international crimes and is codified under genocide and war crimes in Afghanistan’s Penal Code,” the AGO asserted in its statement issued on Sunday, July 25.
The AGO further noted that it has already instructed the relevant authorities to probe the “massacre” in Spin Boldak district of the southern Kandahar province.
Talking to Kabul Now , Mirwais Stanekzai, spokesperson for the MoI, claimed last Friday, July 23, that the Taliban militants have taken out 300-400 civilians from their homes and then shot dead around 100 of them in Spin Boldak.
On the other hand, Zabehullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, rejected the ministry’s claim as a propagation made by the Afghan government against the group.
Moreover, the United Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has also said that it will investigate the allegations of civilians’ massacre in Spin Boldak. The district, which encompasses a key border crossing to Pakistan, fell to the militants in their recent campaign for expanding territorial control.
