army helicopter makes emergency landing in Helmand

Army helicopter crashes in Maidan Wardak killing three crew

Three crew members were killed and another one was wounded after an army helicopter crashed in Jaghatu district of Maidan Wardak province, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) confirmed.

The army helicopter crashed around 02:00 AM today, June 09, said Rohullah Ahmadzai, the MoD Spokesperson. He added that the wounded member has been transferred to Kabul for the treatment.

As per his account, technical failures have caused the MI17 army helicopter crash in the volatile province.

The Taliban, however, claimed that the army helicopter has been downed by the militants in the area.

Releasing a video footage of a crashed army helicopter, the Taliban claimed that they have shot it down last night when it was providing supply to the government forces who are under the Taliban siege in the district.

Maidan Wardak is a neighboring province to the capital Kabul where the Taliban operate in swaths of territory and occasionally launch complex against government forces.

Jalrez and Nirkh districts of the province have recently fallen to the militant group.
