At least six passengers lost their lives and 13 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on Herat-Kandahar highway in Shindand district of the western Herat province, according to a local health official.
The incident took place last night, Saturday, March 27, in Azizabad area of Shindand district, said Mohammad Arif Jalali, head doctor at Herat Regional Hospital.
The injured victims, who are men, were taken to the hospital for treatment.
He, however, did not provide details about the identity of the victims.
The Herat-Kandahar highway is a ring road that connects the western part of the country to the capital Kabul and the north.
Drivers’ recklessness along with damaged narrow roads are often reported as a common cause behind traffic accidents on this highway.
