Taliban have no common stance on war and peace

Hamdullah Moheb, Afghanistan’s National Security Advisor, met with Nicolas Kay, the civilian representative of NATO in Afghanistan, on Thursday, October 10, 2019. In the meeting, according to a statement issued by the Office of National Security Advisor, Moheb clearly said the Taliban leadership and commanders do not have a common stance on war and peace.

The Afghan National Security Advisor underlined that the Afghan government is committed to bring peace and expressed doubt if the Taliban were ready to help peace reconciliation program. Moheb clarified the government’s position and stressed on ceasefire as precondition to talks with the Taliban.   

Mr. Nicolas reaffirmed NATO’s support for the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) and intra-Afghan peace settlement. The civilian representative of NATO said intra-Afghan talks is the only way to end war and bring peace in the country. He praised progresses made by the Afghan forces and vowed NATO’s support for the ANDSFs.
