Afghan forces reclaim Yamgan district of Badakhshan

Afghan forces have reclaimed control over Yamgan district of the northeastern Badakhshan province which was under the control of the Taliban for four years, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) said in a statement.

The statement noted that the Taliban suffered heavy casualties during the ground and air operations conducted by the Afghan security forces.

The ministry, however, did not provide details about the losses inflicted on the Taliban militants. Many Taliban fighters surrendered to the Afghan security and defense forces, the statement read.

No comments were made about casualties of the Afghan forces and the civilians.

The Afghan defense ministry also stated that military operations were underway in the province.

This comes while two days ago the Afghan security forces reclaimed control over Warduj district of the same province which was under Taliban control in the last five years.
