Taliban to close Salang Pass during daytime for reconstruction

The Taliban Ministry of Public Works announced on Wednesday that the Salang Pass will be closed to all traffic during daytime hours starting from Saturday, July 5, for ongoing reconstruction.

According to the Taliban announcement, the highway will be open at night, one night for northbound traffic and the other night for southbound traffic.

The ministry has asked citizens to complete their travel needs by the end of Friday.

The purpose of the traffic restrictions is to implement the reconstruction project of the 80-kilometer highway, which has already begun.

The Salang Highway is a busy, difficult, and strategic highway that connects the north and south of Afghanistan. It is the main crossing point between the two regions of the country. The highway was built several decades ago and is in need of repair.
