Taliban detains four people for alleged extramarital affairs in Takhar province

Taliban authorities in Takhar province have detained two men and women for alleged extramarital affairs.

Mubin Safi, the group’s security spokesperson in the province, said that the detainees were being were being kept in the provincial capital, Taloqan city, and will remain in custody until investigations are complete.

Since returning to power in August 2021, the Taliban has publicly flogged many men and women across Afghanistan for alleged eloping and extramarital affairs.

At least 164 people have been detained and punished in Takhar province.
