Taliban: around 10.7 million people receive electronic ID cards

The Taliban-controlled National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA) has announced that around 10.7 million people in Afghanistan have received electronic ID cards (E-Tazkira) since the distribution process began.

Faqir Mohammad Ziyar, the head of the Authority, revealed that more than 2.5 million individuals received electronic ID cards in the last year alone.

According to him, since the Taliban’s takeover of the country, around 4.6 million people have obtained ID cards from 74 distribution centers across the country.

Following the Taliban’s control, citizens have faced challenges in obtaining essential legal documents, such as ID cards, birth certificates, passports, and marriage certificates.

Reports indicate that people have been queuing for months at Taliban-controlled offices to acquire these documents, which have become a significant income source for the group.
